FIRST TIME TO ZUMBA?

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!

What shoes should I wear?

Running shoes will make moving around MUCH more difficult.

Dance Sneakers, Cross-trainers, or shoes that have less traction will be best.  Students tend to like Capezio, Sketchers and Ryka.

MY FAVORITE SHOES

What if I have a pre-existing injury?

Take it SLOW...  If ANY movement causes you ANY discomfort, DON'T DO IT!

Ask me for a modification, there are tons.

MY FAVORITE SPORTS BRAS

What clothes should I wear?

There is a lot of shaking, shimmying & jumping, so TWO sports bras are better than one ;-)  I used to double up on my sports bras, until I found Athleta...

(Let me know if you like them, too and I will add you to my "friends and family" list, which means discounts and secret sales!!)

---------------------------------HERE'S THE 411------------------------------------

Zumba(r) Fitness is a follow-along dance workout based on "non-verbal cueing".

While I do yell out some hints from time to time, my non-verbal cues are much clearer to follow,

once you know what they are!

  • I hold up fingers to let you know 1, 2, 3, etc counts in a certain direction,
  • I make a big circular motion if I want you to turn around,
  • 2 claps mean switch to the other side (right to left typically)
  • I point to my eyes when I want you to watch b/c I'm about to introduce something new.  And,
  • I tap the top of my head to indicate we're about to "take it from the top" or start from the beginning again.

You DO NOT want to make these hand gestures with me!

It will only confuse us both;-)

                                  And, MOST IMPORTANT:

                                                                                          ...Just keep dancing!!
